The B&M bridge, known locally as the Puente Viejo, connects Matamoros with Brownsville and is the city’s oldest international crossing: the original span opened in December 1910 and still carries trains. Cars and pedestrians use the concrete bridge built alongside it in 1997. Since 1999, commercial trucks have been routed to the Veterans and Los Indios bridges.
