Bridge I, the Gateway to the Americas, connects downtown Nuevo Laredo with downtown Laredo, Texas, at the northern end of Mexican Federal Highway 85. A bridge has stood at this spot since 1889, and for many years it was the only crossing between the two cities. Today it is the pedestrian bridge: most people who walk into downtown Laredo cross here.
